Game of the Day: Punch-Out!! 1984 Arcade

Today’s game of the day is Punch-Out!! the arcade version.

This game was released in 1984 and is the first game in the Punch-Out Series. The first game I played in the series was Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! The first time I played the game was December 31, 2010 when I came across the game in the arcade at my local mall. You don’t see many arcades around anymore where you can play a game for 1 quarter. My local mall is small and hardly has anything in it but it has a nice arcade but that’s another blog post. I was so excited to see this game so I played the game. The game play style was different but the strategies for beating characters like Glass Joe or Bald Bull are along the same lines. The controls are a little different but the Punch-Out series has kept the same feel for all its characters throughout the series. This game is awesome and it’s always nice to see where one of your favorite game series started. If you get a chance to play this game do it so you won’t regret it. I took some pictures and a video with my cell phone and I apologize for the low quality for the video and pictures my camera isn’t the best with quality. I hope you enjoy this quick video I shot and the game play video I found on YouTube.

Game(s) of the Day: Michael Jackson's Monnwalker

In Memory of the late great King of Pop Michael Jackson

Today’s game(s) of the day Is Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker for the Arcade and the Sega Genesis.

These games were based on the movie Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker.
The Arcade game was made first and it was a multiplayer adventure where you could be Michael Jackson in a White Suit or a Red Suit it all depended on which slot you put your quarter in. Some versions let you play with three players which had Michael Jackson in a Black Suit. The point of the game was to go around and save children and defeat the bosses. You could dance to wipe out all the enemies and you can also receive the Robo-Michael power up. He was a metal Machine that shot lasers from his arms. This was a great game and it was very fun to play. Here is video of the game play of the arcade game.

The Sega Genesis version is a bit different then the arcade version. This game is a side scrolling adventure. The point of this game is you go around and save the same little girl in the red dress with a teddy bear and there are a lot of those little girls. You are armed with glitter to throw on the enemies and you are armed with your special moves including: Michael Jackson’s signature hat throw, you can spin around and the make everyone on the stage dance with you and wipe them out which should only be used in boss battles, and last but not least you get the Robo-Michael power up its pretty rare but its way different and way cooler then Robo-Michael‘s in the arcade version. In the Genesis version he is a giant robot that flies around and shoots lasers and rockets it also reveals the location on all the little girls but you can rescue them. This games weren’t the best games and there were pretty repetitious, but when this game came out there weren’t many games like this that were based on a celebrity. It’s still a fun game and no matter what you say about MJ remember what Dave Chappelle said, “He made Thriller…THRILLER”. The Angry Video Game Nerd did a review on this game and he was brutally honest as usual but he didn’t rip on it as bad as most game he reviews. It’s a great video you can check it out below. This video was made before while Michael Jackson was still alive and it contains explicit language and content viewer discretion is advised.

My friend also wrote a blog post about Moonwalker in memory of Michael Jackson click here to check it out.

Michael Jackson was an amazing artist and no one can compare to him he was the King of Pop and will forever be missed.

Happy 30th Birthday Pac-Man

Today May 21, 2010 is the day that the great game of Pac-Man was created and one of the most iconic video games characters was introduced to the world. The game was made by Namco and distributed by Midway in the US. The concept of the character of Pac-Man came along when the Creator was eating pizza and a slice was removed. In japan he is known Puck-Man but the creator changed it to Pac-Man in the US because he said people in America perverted minds (He's right but the Japaneses also have perverted minds as well you can tell by the type of video game they make that aren't released in the US). This game was amazing it was a simple game eat the dots and avoid the ghosts and it got harder and harder as you progressed through the levels. They were many ports of this game to many systems, but it was the arcade port that had people going crazy. Kids would save their lunch money and head to the arcade to play after school. Pac-Man also had his own TV show and he has other merchandise as well so he was definitely a money maker. Buckner & Garcia in 1982 released the song "Pac-Man Fever" which went to #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Everyone had Pac-Man Fever and the parents of these kids thought so which lead to the video game crash of 1983 and arcades were shutting down left and right. Lucky for us video games game back on the scene and have left our side. Pac-Man is an awesome game who could have though such a simple game would be so much fun. That would explain how Pong was so popular and it was even simpler then Pac-Man. Pac-Man is also great because it shares its birthday with the best Star Wars Movie ever made "The Empire Strikes Back". Pac-Man also had many other spin-offs and remakes like Ms. Pac-Man. May 21st is such a great day Happy Birthday Pac-Man (...and The Empire Strikes Back").
